Carl Sanford contributed greatly to the success of the Gaylesville High school football program in the late 1950s. He also played
a huge role in helping the Trojan basketball program attain success as well. As Co-Captain, Carl helped lead his basketball
team to win the 1959 Cherokee County Basketball Tournament. He was also named to the All-County basketball team
that year. In 1959, Carl signed a scholarship to play football at Mississippi State University. He is the first and
only Gaylesville High School graduate to play Division I football.
