Rebounding from a broken leg during his freshman season in high school, Jack Kines would leave an indelible legacy that resonates to this day. In his junior year, Kines would total 108 points and lead Centre to an unblemished record of 10-0. Then, in 1950, the brilliant left halfback topped that mark when he led the state of Alabama in scoring by racking up unprecedented 150 points. Along the way, Kines amassed 1,604 yards rushing on just 89 carries. The shifty Kines’ average of 18.0 yards per carry easily outdistanced every other back in the state. In 1950, Kines was honored for his efforts by The Birmingham News with his selection to the All-State football team. A team man, first and foremost, Kines and his Warrior colleagues rolled off a record 17-straight victories without a loss under the direction of head coach T.A. Windham. Kines “the speed demon” from Centre, also known as the “flying splinter” carried his powerful 148 pounds to Jacksonville State where he lettered in football as a freshman.
