Coach Welsh compiled 328 wins as a varsity boys and girls coach at both Spring Garden High School and Cherokee County High School. After coaching Spring Garden High School boys’ basketball team in the state championship game, Coach Welsh was named the North 1A-2A All-Star Coach in 1979. He also coached baseball for eight years and football for two years while at Spring Garden. Coach Welsh is the only coach in the county to carry both a girls and boys basketball team to a state championship game appearance. In 2005, Spring Garden High School named its gymnasium in honor of Coach Dale Welsh.
