After a stellar career at Cherokee County High school, Martin Houston went on to great accomplishments at the University of Alabama. He was a member of the 1992 Crimson Tide team that went 13-0 and won the National Championship. He was also part of two Southeastern Conference Championship teams. While in college, Martin played in the following bowl games: 1990 Sugar Bowl, 1991 Fiesta Bowl, 1991 Blockbuster Bowl, 1993 Sugar Bowl, and 1993 Senior Bowl. He finished his career at the University of Alabama with 1,052 yards rushing. His academic awards included being named 1992 Academic All SEC, receiving the 1992 Christian Athlete of the Year Award, the Charlie Compton Christian Leadership Award, and the Sylvester Croom Commitment to Excellence Trophy. Martin made the 1993 Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster before his football career ended.
